CHILDREN'S LITERATURE

FICTION

I enjoy writing Adventure-related fiction for readers ages 7 to 12, especially stories that address real-world situations children encounter (e.g., bullying, discrimination, racial bias, divorce, economic hardship, blended families, drugs). I try to offer guidance through the actions of book characters on how to deal with these issues even if there is no obvious "correct" solution. After all, our society is not starkly black-and-white. Indeed, there's a lot of gray.

I recently completed a 32,000-word novel for early Middle Grade readers that details the adventures of an eight-year-old girl spending the summer in New England.

LIGHT VERSE

Early in my writing career, my poems appeared in a number of literary journals, including the Odessa Poetry Review and North American Mentor Magazine, as well as anthologies.

Today, I apply those poetic skills (such as they are) to writing book-length light verse for the Early Reader and Middle Grade markets. My approach is to tell a compelling story (with a fully developed plot, believable characters and balanced narrative and dialog) in a light-hearted and engaging manner.

Over the past year I have carefully developed the concept for a multi-book Fantasy-Adventure series for children ages six and older. The first book in the series has been written.

NONFICTION

I have a knack for writing about complex issues in a clear, easy-to-understand and entertaining manner. To date, two of my nonfiction books and several of my magazine articles were written for the Young Adult and older markets.
